FAQs about detailing, how we do business (and maybe a little silly stuff, too).

Q: Anybody can detail! 🙄 Why should I hire you?

A: It's true—Anyone can learn how to clean and detail! But professional detailers have specialized experience, equipment, and products. We have access to superior chemicals not available at your local auto parts store or cleaning supplier. And we can save time, money, and a lot of hassle if you mess up your vehicle's finish!

Q: What is the difference between a car wash and a detail?

A: Washing is simply a rinse or a suds/rinse. To "detail" means to attend to all of the details! Cleaning the nooks and crannies—inside and out—of a vehicle. It can also include vacuuming, wax, polish, carpet shampooing, stain removal, fabric/leather protectant, ceramic coating, and paint correction.

Q: Why should I book your services when there's a car wash right down the street?

A: Not to disparage our neighbors, but drive-throughs offer a quick fix, not a thorough, customized service. Those businesses also often use cheaper, harsh chemicals that can damage paint, break down rubber, fade or cloud plastic, and crack leather. (And most of them don't accommodate "dualies," lifted trucks, and other less-conventional vehicles.) If you want professional care and deep cleaning, we recommend a professional detailing service.

Q: What is a ceramic coat?

A: Ceramic coating—also sometimes called "nano-ceramic coating"—is a chemical polymer that is applied to protect from damage. Typically applied by hand, it blends with the paint and creates an additional layer of protection. (There are several brands available, but BMD prefers CQuartz.) Here's a good overview of the benefits of CC: https://www.vive-houston.com/blog/ceramic-coating-does-it-work

Q: What chemicals do you use?

A: We prefer P&S professional detailing products. Please let us know, though, if you prefer or require different supplies (such as all-natural) and we will do our best to accommodate you!

Q: What is a clay bar?

A: A clay bar is a clay-like resin product that pulls contaminants like water spots, brake dust, metal dust, industrial pollution, sap, bug residue, and road grit from a vehicle's clear coat. When used with a lubricant, these contaminants come loose and get stuck safely in the clay so they don’t damage the surface during waxing/polishing. It's wise to decontaminate your car with a clay bar every time it's waxed, which should be at least twice a year.

Q: What add-ons do you offer?

A: Available upgrades to any package are fragrance, headlight polish, child car seat cleaning, ceramic coat (for windows), pet hair removal, seat stain removal, carpet shampoo, paint correction, and clay bar/hand wax/buff. Customers may also add on 3-month, 6-month, or 12-month maintenance (quick wash & vacuum).
